From Bruce Tarran, The Leicestershire Head Coach.
Hi, everyone.
Considering the weather, and therefore having little else to do, this seemed like a good time for me to write an email.
As we enter February, a hot and glorious summer is just a heartbeat away, and it's time to prepare for the match season. To this end we are soon starting the Adult Team Training sessions. These will run 5 weeks for the men and 4 weeks for the ladies, and are open to all prospective team players.Ladies practices are on Thursday evenings in 2 time-slots and commence Thursday 26th February. Ladies Captain, Sally Yarnall, will be in attendance. Details are at http://www.tarrantennis.co.uk/ladiesteam.html Mens practices are also in 2 time-slots on Sunday afternoons and commence Sunday 22nd February. Mens captain, Colin Ayling, will be in attendance. Details are at http://www.tarrantennis.co.uk/menstraining.html Forms and details will also be posted in the clubhouse.

There are still places available for all groups, particularly on the mini tennis courses, including indoor sessions on Thursdays at The Knighton Centre.
The 250th anniversary Burns night celebration on Tuesday 27th January was a great success. Tim Watt gave an oration and then attacked the haggis with some gusto. Well done Steve Parker for his great Scottish home cooking.
This year's County Tennis Awards once again produced recognition for a number of Club members for their achievements in 2008.British international Ladies Vet, Shirley Fox, was a deserved winner of Senior Player of The Year.Zara Jurenko won the Special Disability Award.Ben Mullis won the Greenshire Cup for Junior Player.James Tutt won the prestigious Anthony Hunting trophy for contribution to tennis in the county.Well done to them all!

There is a Chicago Bridge Night on Saturday 28th February. Details on the board. Club member, Vincent Schmitt, is returning to his native France at the end of February. Vincent has been a Club member for some years, representing the mens and mixed teams as well as being a popular social member. He is the man who put the cordiale in the entente, and will truly be missed. All are welcome to come to the Club on Friday 20th February for an au revoir drink with Vincent and Yoko. Steve will be doing food - if you require feeding please let him know in advance. If you'd like to donate to a farewell gift, please tell Ian Nicholson (ian.nicholson6@ntlworld.com)
The weather could not defeat our Maintenance Manager Extraordinaire, Martin Byrne, who cleared the snow off the front 3 courts on Tuesday, and then courts 4 to 6 on Wednesday. I bet there weren't many outdoor courts in the Midlands playable this week - thanks Martin!
